The racebending.com LA Street Team took to the world-renouned San Diego ComicCon this past weekend to promote the protest and boycott of The Last Airbender. The results were magnificent!
Stats:
Days at the con: 4
# of volunteers: approx. 7
# of signatures for petition: 200+
# of pins given: 1500
# of flyers distributed: 7000
# of shirts distributed: 15
“We also managed to get some crowds gathered around us as we talked about the racist casting. We got a LOT of attention. We were interviewed twice on-camera by some indie press folks.
We managed to spend most of Sunday either outside the Nickelodeon booth or outside the convention hall. The Nickelodeon staff didn’t ask us to stop! We just stood a little bit to the side of their booth, next to the giant Airbender poster. We were full-on yelling into the crowd, handing out flyers and buttons, getting signatures, and we were never asked to stop.
A lot of people stopped to give us their support and sign up. For many, it was the first time they’d heard about it.”

An Asian Aang??!!! How can this be?! He just looks weird in Shaolin monk robes; Aang should be white, right?

(fyi – this guy’s cosplay is FANTASTIC, I love it so much.)
Support from the pros!

The pictures from the Comic Con speak MORE than a thousand words!!! I am proud to be a part of this group. Everyone’s efforts to spread awareness about what is happening to our beloved “Avatar: The Last Airbender” demonstrate to the WORLD how serious this issue is.
