Racebending.com: Welcome

Welcome to Racebending.com. If you’re reading this message, you’ve probably seen a flier left by our street team.

What’s this all about?

The flier you saw was based on actual casting calls released by Paramount Pictures. In 2008, they specifically sought Caucasian actors for The Last Airbender. This film, releasing in July 2010, is based on an American cartoon series starring Asian heroes.

Cast Comparison

Paramount insisted on Caucasian actors for the heroic roles. They introduced “diversity” by casting Middle Eastern and South Asian men in villainous roles.

For extras, they released casting calls specifically asking for “Near Eastern, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern, Asian, Mediterranean, and Latino.”
